Karnataka police arrested a man for allegedly killing his girlfriend in Chikkamagaluru district on Saturday.
Accused 28-year-old Chiranjeevi and victim 26-year-old Tripti belong to the same village. The woman was married and had two children.
A police officer said, “Chiranjeevi tried to reach Trupti over phone and she ignored him for about two months. Chiranjeevi was angry and frustrated. On Saturday, he came home with his 2.5-year-old daughter and stabbed Trupti to death. Later, her body was recovered from his house. The body was found after a few hours.
Police said Chiranjeevi befriended Tripti on Instagram and the two had an extramarital affair. Three months ago Tripti had also left her husband and children and eloped with Chiranjeevi. A missing complaint was filed, and the police traced and brought the two back. After that, the woman reportedly said that she wanted to live with her husband again and the police warned Chiranjeevi not to contact Tripti.
“We have kept him in police custody for further investigation,” said a police officer.
