Six members of the same family were injured when a two-storey DDA Janata flat collapsed in Delhi’s Shani Bazar area of Narela on Sunday when an LPG cylinder caught fire. The injured suffered from a combination of burns and burns, police said.
Narela Industrial Area Police Station was informed about a fire in a house in Punjabi Colony at around 7:53 am. Delhi Fire Service was also informed and two fire tenders were dispatched to the spot. They found that the gas pipeline of the LPG cylinder had burst when the roof of a residential building made of concrete sheets collapsed. The subsequent fire quickly spread to other household items inside the house. Due to the impact of the fire, the roof of the ground floor also collapsed due to poor construction and weak structure of the building, a police official said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Nidhin Walson said that 40-year-old Raju and 35-year-old Rajeshwari and their 18-year-old son Rahul and three daughters aged 12, 5 and 3 were injured in the incident. And immediately taken to Raja Harishchandra Hospital in Narela.
The younger daughters suffered only 6 to 8 percent burns, while their elder siblings suffered 50 percent and 45 percent burns respectively. The condition of Raju and Rajeshwari, who suffered 52 percent and 45 percent burns, is also critical.
“Neighbors reported that the family was cooking when the roof collapsed, causing a combination of traumatic injuries and burns,” said DCP Valson, adding, “There was no cylinder explosion”.
Police said that further investigation is underway.
On Friday morning, six people were injured when a gas cylinder fell on the first floor of a house in Swatantra Nagar, Narela.
