Mung beans are also known as split green gram and It contains essential nutrients like iron, magnesium, copper, potassium and contains B-vitamins B, A, C and lots of fiber.
According to Deepalakshmi, soaked mung beans are a good source of protein and fiber which helps in weight loss and aids in digestion. โSoaking mung beans breaks down the phytic acid and improves absorption of nutrients like iron, zinc and calcium. It is low on the glycemic index and is a good snack for people with diabetes,โ she said.
Soaked moong dal is also low in calories, helps lower cholesterol and promotes heart health. It contains antioxidants and nutrients like vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, which boost immune function.
How many mung beans can be eaten daily?
Although this can vary based on a person’s activity and needs, Deepalakshmi recommends that ideally, a person can consume half a cup a day. However, when it comes to precautions to keep in mind, she warns that consuming too much can cause digestive problems like bloating and increase the risk of uric acid formation. Hence, she cautioned and encouraged people to follow strict portion control to reap the benefits without risking the downsides.
