The Kolkata Press Club, established in 1945, has decided to grant regular membership along with voting rights to photojournalists for the first time. The move came after a mass voting session among members on Saturday, where photojournalists won by a narrow margin of 5 votes.
The secretary of the press club, Kingshuk Namanik, said that the process of including photojournalists as regular members will start soon. In their annual general meeting, a proposal was made to allow photojournalists to become ordinary members with voting rights. The voting results showed that 186 members were in favor and 181 members were against.
