Prime Minister Narendra Modi implemented what the framers of the constitution envisioned as an “ideal welfare state”, Union Home and Cooperatives Minister Amit Shah said on Saturday.
Speaking at the 35th anniversary of Lok Seva Trust, an NGO founded by Congress veteran Rajkumar Gupta in Ahmedabad on Saturday, Shah said, “When it was decided to establish democracy in India, we decided to frame the constitution. All parties, all religious leaders and all provinces participated and the constitution committee was formed. At that time, the Chairman of the Constituent Assembly Rajendra Babu (President Rajendra Prasad) gave the essence that our country should be a welfare state. Everyone should enjoy welfare and live a life of dignity. This is the country we decided to make.
Shah said, “Every government has done as much as it could in its time, but as a student of numbers, I analyze it… I can definitely say that before 2014, everyone was working piecemeal. There is no government that does not work for the poor. Every government has come up with a plan to build houses for the poor, they have taken it forward, they have come up with plans to give water, gas cylinders, health services, free rations to the poor. But no government has talked about making the country free from poverty.
He said, ‘In 2014, the people of India elected Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister and he promised that there will not be a single house without a toilet. They would not be a person without a home. They wouldn’t be a single person without gas. No one will have to go to bed hungry. Today, every month 6.5 lakh people are given 5 kg of grain for free. Such a scheme does not exist anywhere in the world. “
Speaking about the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), Shah said, “The Government of India provides health insurance up to Rs 5 lakh to over 60 crore people. I have written to the owners of many private hospitals asking them to “no charge” and the poor. (Wichare) I have accepted this as a minister but I have seen their faces when giving a fee waiver. But they also have a problem. And now we are all about 70 years of age group We have gone ahead to expand the insurance scheme. He said, ‘Between 2014 and 2024, Narendra Modi has implemented what the framers of the constitution envisioned as an ideal welfare state.
Talking about the development, Shah said, ‘There has been a lot of development (development) with this. I don’t want to touch it. As long as more than 600 million people of this country remain poor, the country cannot develop. The Prime Minister thought about this and brought a solution from the land level. As a result, in just 10 years, 250 million people out of 600 million people, as defined by the United Nations, have come out of poverty.”
