The night temperature in Mumbai dropped by 3.7 degrees on Saturday after a significant increase in the minimum temperature.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Santacruz observatory recorded 20.7 degrees Celsius on Saturday night, which was 1.9 degrees above normal. The minimum temperature on Friday night was 24.4 degrees Celsius.
Throughout the last week, the minimum temperature in Mumbai was on the high side. Between December 4 and 5, Mumbai’s minimum temperature was 25 degrees Celsius, about seven degrees above normal.
Meteorological officials said the southern and eastern parts of the country received significant rainfall as the mercury rose due to the impact of Cyclone Fengal, which developed over the east and south-east coasts.
“Now, as the effect of the cyclone is slowly waning, there may be some reduction in temperature in the coming days. From December 9-10, the minimum temperature may be 18 degrees Celsius or less. Earlier, the temperature had increased due to the low pressure caused by Cyclone Fengal. Humidity has also increased due to low pressure,’ said the meteorologist.
In the last few weeks, Mumbai has also recorded several cases of extreme temperatures. On November 29, Mumbai recorded a minimum temperature of 16.5 degrees, the lowest in eight years. Later, within a week on December 4, the maximum temperature of the metropolis was recorded at 37.3 degrees, making December the hottest day in 16 years.
