More than half of Indian Institute of Technology Delhi’s (IIT Delhi) graduate students secured job offers through on-campus recruitment programmes, while around 10 per cent went into self-employment or entrepreneurship, and 1.7 per cent joined startups, an official said. According to the exit survey conducted by the Institute on Friday. Of the total graduates, 1,411 students (53.1 percent) secured job offers through placements.
The survey, which analyzed data from 2,656 students who graduated in August this year, highlighted that higher education remains an attractive option for many IIT graduates with 359 students (13.5 per cent) pursuing further studies. Of those, 47 PhD students (1.8 percent) are awaiting post-doctoral research opportunities or faculty positions. Meanwhile, 321 students (12.1 percent) are preparing for competitive exams like civil services and engineering services exams.
Students receiving on-campus placements in 2023-24 increased by nearly 25 percent from 2022-23, including a six-fold increase in the number of PhD scholars. In 2023-24, the total number of graduates is about 10 percent more than the previous year, while the number of PhDs has increased by 30 percent.
The survey also found that 134 students (5 percent) were still looking for suitable career opportunities.
“Our students are eager to explore the many and varied career opportunities like startups, entrepreneurship, higher studies, post-doctoral research, civil services, and many more,” said a statement issued on Friday.
IITs started their annual campus placement interviews from December 1.
