A man in Karnataka’s Belagavi district allegedly killed the mother and brother of his minor girlfriend, who objected to their relationship and rejected his marriage proposal.

According to the police, the person involved in the murder in a village of Nipani taluk of Belagavi district has been arrested and the girl has been sent to an observation home.

A police official said they received distress calls from villagers, and when they reached the spot, they found the bloodied bodies of a 45-year-old woman and her 18-year-old son. Police said the suspect killed the woman and her son and fled with the minor girl.

While collecting preliminary information, the police suspected that the woman’s daughter might be in danger after learning that she was missing. They later learned that the girl was seen with a man from the same village. The police reached the house of the man trying to escape but caught him.

During interrogation, he told the police that the suspect went to the woman’s house to talk about a marriage proposal. He also took a motorcycle to leave the village. Police later arrested the suspect at his home and found the girl there.

The police said that the suspect, who is 15 years older than the girl, contacted the family many times trying to marry her. However, the family rejected his proposal citing the age difference.

The police have registered a case of murder against the accused and have detained him for further investigation.
