Shillong:
Worried about the ongoing unrest at the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) here, faculty members on Friday requested Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar to intervene to resolve the crisis.
The protests, now in their third day, have significantly disrupted operations at the university, which serves about 5,000 students.

North Eastern Hill University Teachers Association (Nehuta) President Prof. Lakhon Kma said the professor informed the governor about the situation.
During the meeting, Governor Vijayashankar expressed concern over the ongoing protests and stressed that students should attend their classes without protesting.
He also instructed all stakeholders including teachers, staff to give suggestions to resolve the crisis.
“We have apprised the Governor, who is the chief rector of Nehu, about the ongoing unrest in the university,” Kema said.
Students, teachers and non-teaching staff all called upon Shukla’s leadership, Prof.
In response, the Vice-Chancellor called a meeting on Thursday, November 11 and promised to take action based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
He also asked the students to end the agitation in order to maintain normal situation in the university.
Also, the Vice-Chancellor announced the appointment of Pro-VCs for the Tura and Shillong campuses by the end of the month as per University Ordinance.
