A 35-year-old woman who was chairperson of a cooperative credit society in Pune district’s Indapur taluk was brutally murdered on Wednesday evening by a man with whom she was having an extramarital affair, Pune rural police said. Police arrested the 25-year-old accused who was absconding after repeatedly stabbing him and later surrendered at Indpur police station.
The deceased has been identified as Sunita Shende (35) of Nimgaon Ketaki village in Indapur taluk, about 140 km from Pune city, police said. Police said that the arrested person is Dyaneshwar Baban Raskar of Surwad village of Indapur taluk. “It is said that the deceased had an extra-marital relationship with the accused. There was a dispute about their relationship. The killing appears to be the result of a dispute,” said a Pune Rural Police officer.
The police said that the accused has a mobile shop. Sunita was the president of Nimgaon Ketki-based Janai Lakshmi Cooperative Credit Society. The woman’s husband, Dadarao Shende (37), who owns an automobile dealership in the area, has registered an FIR.
“The complainant returned from work at 8.15pm on Wednesday. When he reached home, he saw that Sunita was not at home. A family member said that he had left the house while talking on the phone some time ago. The search for him started on Sarafwadi road in Nimgaon Ket. Then he heard his wife scream from the tin shed. As he pointed the torch there, he saw Raskar stabbing his wife with a sharp knife. As Shende rushed to his rescue, Rashkar fled on his bike,” the officer said.
Local villagers and her family members reached the spot after hearing Sunita’s screams. Sunita was rushed to a local hospital where she was declared brought dead. The accused inflicted many injuries on her head, stomach and chest. “After some time, Raskar came to the police station and surrendered. He was then arrested,’ said the official.
