South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol stunned the country on Tuesday night by declaring “emergency martial law” in large-scale protests outside parliament. Amid ongoing political turmoil, South Korea’s opposition leader Lee Jae-myung climbed the parliament fence to vote against the controversial law.
Jae-myung went live on YouTube and recorded himself climbing a wall in an attempt to enter the parliament. The now-viral video—with over 16 million views—shows the leader scaling Parliament’s boundary wall. He climbs over the metal fence first and jumps to the other side. He entered and did not stop looking at the camera.
Sharing a clip of the live stream video, an X handle @XXIBGOD_ wrote, “Lee Jae-myung goes up the wall in the live video.”

Many social media users flocked to the comment section to respond to it. One user wrote, “I’m in tears watching him run into the main conference hall as fast as he can, even if it means jumping over a wall at 60 years old.” “Lee Jae-myung TV Live is getting bolder. I can’t wait to see what he goes through next! “
“This man is the opposition leader of South Korea…what can we do to save democracy in our country, salute to the people of South Korea…they saved democracy,” responded a third user.
Meanwhile, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol accepted the resignation of Defense Minister Kim Yong-Hyun and nominated Choi Byung-Hyuk, Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, as the new Defense Minister.
Martial law was lifted in South Korea after 190 lawmakers voted against it.
