Former Australian fast bowler Ryan Harris, in his prime, is facing it in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Pat Cummins: His power is relentless on the batsman. Consistency in implementation. He leads his bowling group and leads his team well. You know, he had some time off. I think he only played one match in the Perth Test. He looked a little rusty, wasn’t as consistent and executed as he was. But I think now with those overs under his belt, we’ll see the world-class Pat Cummins we know.
Mitchell Starc: He had a very good start in the first Test. Australia just slipped with the bat. I think Stark was really cool. He bowled fast. When he’s bowling in the mid-140s and he’s swinging the ball. It tells me that Stark is in a really good position and if he’s in that position he’s very dangerous. He has made a career out of it.
Josh Hazlewood: Some have said that he was, as I was, very close to him. But he is a bit taller than me. His ball is capable of hitting the off stump line, just like Glenn McGrath. He’s very good at hitting the same spot over and over again. And with that height, he also generates that vertical bounce.
Scott Boland: Scotty is really good with the pink ball. He will come in and test the Indian batsmen. He hits the perfect length, the ideal length in Australian conditions. He’s got that nip-backer too. He will be a big threat for the Indian batsmen.
Jasprit Bumrah: With this kind of awkward action, he’s a threat. But there are other things too. I think the other strange part… was looking at some analysis of that first Test and a lot of batsmen were talking about the release point. His release point is far ahead. I don’t know, it might be 40cm, it’s much later than a traditional bowler and it makes a big difference. When releasing the ball, he is almost in front of the front crease. When you’ve got a guy bowling in the high 140s and he’s very efficient in moving in and out of the seam, swinging, that extra split second, it creates doubt in the batter’s mind. Not only is this unique action, but the release point makes a huge difference.
Mohammad Siraj: I was impressed with Siraj, he has developed a lot. I have watched him from time to time. Over the last one year, he has developed into a quality Test match bowler. He is spending time with Jasprit Bumrah.
Harshit Rana: I was surprised by him. He was very sharp. He was a little faster than I expected. Really didn’t see much of him coming into that Test. And you know, he didn’t take many wickets in the second innings, but he did his job and put the Australian batsmen under pressure.
