Accused of murder slapped the judge in Thane court Mumbai News

A 22-year-old accused in a murder case threw a sandal at the judge during a trial in a session court in Maharashtra’s Thane district, police said on Monday.

The slipper hit the judge and hit the wooden frame in front of his desk and landed next to the bench clerk, they said.

The incident took place in a Kalyan city court on Saturday afternoon, after which a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against the accused.

Accused Kiran Santosh Bharam has been produced before District and Additional Sessions Judge RG Waghmare for trial in the murder case against him, said an officer of Mahatma Phule Police Station.

At that time, the accused applied to the judge to transfer his case to another court. The judge asked the accused to apply through his lawyer, the official said.

His lawyer’s name was then called, but he was not around and did not appear in court. Therefore, the accused was asked to name another lawyer on his behalf and the court gave a new date, he said.

The accused then bent down, removed his sandal and threw it in the direction of the judge, startling everyone in the courtroom, the official said.

An FIR was registered against the accused under sections 132 (assault or criminal force to prevent a public servant from discharging his duties) and 125 (endangering the life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Judicial Code, police added.
