As part of the expansion plan, the Tiruchi Collector has given his recommendation to the state government to merge 22 village panchayats into the Tiruchi Corporation.
The recommendations are based on a survey conducted by the Rural Development Department and Corporation officials to identify urbanized suburbs under the direction of the Commissionerate of Municipal Administration.
According to sources, several villages in Anthanallur, Manchanallur, Manikandam, Lalgudi and Thiruverumbar blocks are proposed to be merged with the corporation. Viksanderakovil, Koothur, Thalakudi, Madakudi, Appadurai, Isanaikorai, Pudukudi, Panyakurichi, Gundur, Mallimpathur, Maruthandakurichi, Kambarasampettai, Mutharasanallur, Nachikurichi, Somerasampettalampur, Nachikurichi, Somarasampettalam, Panchayats and Local Panchayats were which is recommended to be merged with Tiruchi Corporation.
Collector M Pradeep Kumar said Hindu A recommendation was sent to the state government. The recommendation was being scrutinized by senior officials. During the process, one or two panchayats may be excluded from the expansion. A government order was expected in a few days. The details of the villages to be merged into the corporation will be clearly known only after the GO is issued.
After the GO is issued, the rural local body officials will formally hand over their respective village registration, population details and other documents to the corporation, Mr. Pradeep Kumar said.
It was in 2011 that the Tiruchi Corporation jurisdiction was expanded with the merger of Tiruverumbur City Panchayat, Pappakurichi, Ellakudi, Kizha Kalkandarkottai, and Alathur Village Panchayats, increasing the geographical extent of the Corporation to 167.23 square kilometers.
