Infrastructure projects like the Mumbai-Nagpur Samriddhi Expressway will connect it to other major cities
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday announced that Gadchiroli district will soon become India’s new ‘Steel City’. Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Fadnavis shared plans to transform Gadchiroli into a hub for steel production, ensuring a Naxal-free zone within three years.
Once known for Naxal activities, Gadchiroli is now on the path of development. The Chief Minister noted that significant progress has been made in controlling Naxalism with many rebels killed or surrendered. He informed that 1500 youth including 150 Naxal families of the district have joined the police. Fadnavis expressed confidence that Naxal recruitment in Maharashtra has been completely stopped and Naxalism in Gadchiroli will be eradicated soon.
Drawing parallels with Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur, often referred to as India’s ‘Steel City’, Fadnavis emphasized Gadchiroli’s potential due to its rich mineral resources. Infrastructure projects like the Mumbai-Nagpur Samriddhi Expressway will connect Gadchiroli with other major cities.
The CM also highlighted the achievements of the Mahayuti government, stating that after assuming office in 2022, they had secured an investment of Rs 1.23 lakh crore for the Vidarbha region. He presented schemes for river linking, irrigation and industrial development in Vidarbha and Marathwada.
Fadnavis, who assumed office for the third time after the Mahayuti alliance’s electoral victory, reaffirmed his commitment to create development and opportunities across the state.
