Civic body notices Virat Kohli’s pub in Bengaluru for fire safety violations

Earlier, a notice was issued on November 29 on the complaint of social workers HM Venkatesh and Kunigal Narasimhamurthy. However, no answer has been received yet.

The civic body Bengaluru Bruhat Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has issued a notice to cricketer Virat Kohli’s pub ‘One8 Commune’ for alleged fire safety violations.

The restaurant, located on the sixth floor of Ratnam Complex on MG Road near Chinnaswamy International Cricket Stadium, is said to be operating without a no-objection certificate from the fire department.

Earlier, a notice was issued on November 29 on the complaint of social workers HM Venkatesh and Kunigal Narasimhamurthy. However, no answer has been received yet.

Now, the BBMP has been given a deadline of seven days, and legal action will be taken against the pub if the clarification is missed this time too, said a notice issued by the health officer of the Shantinagar division of the BBMP.

Complainant Venkatesh said, “Many restaurants, bars and pubs in high-rise buildings in Bengaluru are operating without any fire safety measures. In the past, fire accidents in Bengaluru have resulted in huge loss of life and injuries. For example, when the Carlton Tower caught fire due to a short circuit, people threw their Jumped from the building in an attempt to save his life.”

“To prevent such incidents, the BBMP and the fire department have conducted audits. They identified many buildings without proper fire safety measures and issued rules that such buildings should not be licensed, and operations should not be allowed in those premises,” Venkatesh. demanded.

“Despite these rules, violations continue. Similarly, there is lack of fire safety measures in the restaurant in the high rise building of Ratna Complex on MG Road, we have raised this issue and brought it to the attention of BBMP by filing a complaint. After this, they have issued a notice that it is uncertain whether the BBMP and the fire department will ensure safety and implement these measures effectively,” he said.

Earlier in July also, an FIR was registered against One8 Commune for exceeding the deadline of 1 am. The FIR stated that the establishment opened at 1.20 am and served the customers, which exceeded the permitted time limit.
