Ravichandran Ashwin has announced his retirement from international cricket

Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin announced his immediate retirement from international cricket on Wednesday.

This decision of the 38-year-old player came after the third Test between India and Australia ended in a draw in Brisbane.

“This will be my last year as an Indian cricketer in all formats at the international level,” Ashwin told a press conference.

Ashwin’s farewell to international cricket will leave him second only to Anil Kumble in the list of India’s highest wicket-takers in Tests. Ashwin has taken 537 wickets in 106 Test matches.

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted a special social media post to congratulate the spin wizard and wrote on X, “Thank you Ashwin. A name synonymous with skill, wizardry, talent and innovation. The spinner. And #TeamIndia’s prized all-rounder from international cricket.” Legendary Career Announces Retirement, @ashwinravi99 ❤️”
