Vijayawada: A white dhoti made of Mangalagiri cotton and silk, a golden colored kurta with a white scarf became the center of attraction at the first convocation ceremony of AIIMS Mangalagiri on Tuesday.
Indian traditional dress was chosen as a symbol of national pride at the convocation ceremony. The color palette of the pieces and ancient kalamkari art using natural colors keeping in mind the colors and elements of the AIIMS Mangalagiri logo. Yellow and green tones and mud added to the contrast.
Education Minister Nar Lokesh presented President Draupadi Murmu with a Mangalagiri Handloom golden shawl.
Earlier too, when he met prominent personalities like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lokesh had honored him by wearing a Mangalagiri shawl.
Incidentally, the Education Minister has been adamantly supporting the handloom weavers of Mangalagiri, a community he considers as his extended family.
