Vijayawada: Indian Oil Corporation officials have proposed making Amravati the first “full pipeline” capital in terms of gas connectivity.
A team led by Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) member A Raman Kumar met state chief secretary Nirav Prasad on Tuesday to discuss gas pipeline projects and related developments.
Officials drew comparisons between Amravati and Gandhinagar’s Gujarat International Finance Tech-City (GIFT), where everything, including gas, electricity and telecom cables, is laid underground. Gas is being supplied through pipes to residences, commercial complexes and institutions there. Similarly, Amravati could be made India’s first piped gas capital, they proposed.
The Chief Secretary supported the proposal and said that the state government would fully support this effort.
Andhra Pradesh Gas Development Corporation Director Dinesh Kumar said the aim is to provide piped gas connection to eight million people in the state.
PNGRB representatives also visited RTGS and held a meeting with AP Gas Development Corporation officials. They discussed the progress of natural gas pipeline construction and gas distribution in the city.
Dinesh Kumar requested assistance from PNGRB to achieve the target of 8 million gas connections. He also expressed his commitment to provide full support to address the regional challenges in the gas pipeline construction process.
City Gas Distribution Director Colonel Kumar Ashish, IOC General Manager Satyanarayan and others participated in the meeting.
