Top 10 World’s Busiest Air Routes in 2024: A recent forecast by the Airports Council International (ACI) estimates that international passenger traffic will reach 4.1 billion by the end of 2024.

Total global passenger traffic is projected to increase to 9.5 billion, according to the same report, reflecting growth of 10% for the same year.

With the aviation industry bouncing back after the pandemic, there has been a resurgence of international air travel, marking an impressive 93.8% rebound from pre-pandemic figures.

As a result, major airports worldwide are investing in infrastructure upgrades and expanding flight paths to accommodate traffic growth.

Notably, most of the busiest international flight routes for 2024 are in Asia, with one route from Africa, one from Europe and North America, and two from the Middle East.

In its recent report, the OAG explored the busiest international and domestic flight routes globally compared to 2023 and 2019 (pre-pandemic).

Top 10 Busiest International Flight Routes of 2024

Hong Kong (HKG) to Taipei (TPE) will be the world’s busiest international flight route in 2024, with a total of 6.8 million seats available, surpassing Kuala Lumpur to Singapore.

After Cairo to Jeddah, the second-busiest international airline route for 2024, with 5.5 million seats, which shows a 14% increase compared to the 2023 level and a 62% increase compared to 2019.

Hong Kong jumped from eleventh place Bangkok to seventh with 4.2 million seats in 2023, up 29 percent from 2023 but still 13 percent behind 2019.

Which is India’s busiest domestic flight route globally in 2024?

Indeed, the flight route from Mumbai (BOM) to Delhi (DEL) recorded a total of 7,963,686 available seats, ranking it as one of the world’s busiest domestic routes in 2024.

Ranked 8th globally in 2024, this route saw a modest decline of 3% in capacity comparing 2019 versus 2024, but a 9% increase this year from 2023.
