‘If they tax us, we tax them the same’: Donald Trump’s message to India on high tariffs | World News

Reiterating his intention to impose reciprocal taxes, US President-elect Donald Trump accused India of charging “exorbitant taxes” and warned of similar tariffs imposed by New Delhi.

Speaking to reporters at Mar-a-Lago on Monday, Trump criticized India’s tariffs, highlighting the 100% tariff on certain US products.

“The word reciprocal is important because if someone charges us, India, we don’t have to talk about ourselves, if India charges us 100 percent, are we not going to charge them anything for that? You know, they send in bicycles and we charge them. We send bicycles. They charge us 100 and 200,” Trump was quoted as saying PTI.

Asked about a possible trade deal with China, Trump said India and Brazil would impose high tariffs.

‘India charges a lot. Brazil charges a lot. If they want to charge us, that’s fine, but we’re going to charge them the same thing,” Trump said at a news briefing.

Trump claimed that in almost all cases, taxes were imposed on American products, but the American administration did not impose taxes. “Reciprocal. If they tax us, we tax them the same amount. They tax us. We tax them. And they tax us,” he added.
