Gujarat: SMC employee hires, sells car to travel agent, probe begins, says police | Ahmedabad news

A sanitation worker of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) was allegedly duped by a travel agent who rented his car and sold it to another person, police said.

38-year-old Kailashben Gosai filed a complaint with the Pandesara police on Monday saying that there was a loss of Rs 980,000. Gosai said that she bought a car worth 11.50 lakhs on loan in 2019.

According to the police FIR, on April 1 this year, she had given a car to Madhubhai Rupchandani, a travel agent resident of Piplod, on rent of Rs 30,000 per month. She also notarized the rental agreement by depositing the amount in the car loan installment bank account.

According to the FIR, Rupchandani stopped paying the rent for the months of April and May. When confronted by Gosai, he started making excuses before he stopped answering her phone altogether, she alleged.

The woman said she just found out that her car was sold to another person a few months ago. The police have registered a case against Rupchandani under Section 409 of the Indian Code of Justice (IPC) and started investigation.

Pandesara Police Inspector HM Gadhvi said, ‘We have started the search for the absconding underground.
