Gujarat: Drugs seized in breakfast packets Ahmedabad News

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Tuesday arrested two drug smugglers at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad in separate incidents and seized hydroponic cannabis worth Rs 15 crore, according to an official statement.

In the first case, the DRI said that based on a tip-off, officers stopped an Indian national from Bangkok at Ahmedabad’s international airport. A search of the passenger’s check-in luggage revealed four cloth bags containing 10 breakfast packets.

According to a DRI statement: “A green colored lumpy substance (wrapped in an airtight polythene packet) was found inside these packets.” Authorities later tested the material and confirmed the substance was cannabis, commonly known as marijuana, the statement said.

Officials said that the drug, which weighs 9.2 kg, is worth more than 90 million rupees in the international market. In another incident, DRI intercepted a Thai national and seized 6 kg of narcotics worth Rs 6 crore from his luggage in a joint operation with the Customs Department at the Ahmedabad International Airport. Later that person was also arrested. Both the accused have been arrested under the NDPS Act.
