6 people were arrested in excise operations on New Year’s eve, 21 kg of marijuana was seized

As Hyderabad gears up for New Year celebrations, state Excise and Prohibition officials have launched raids and searches targeting gangs that import and store large quantities of drugs in the city.

In the raid conducted by the State Task Force and Excise Department officials, 21 kg of ganja has been recovered till Tuesday (December 17) and 6 criminals including inter-state traders have been arrested.

Those arrested are 37-year-old Lakan Singh of Dhulpet, 30-year-old Indresh Singh and 30-year-old Shubham Singh, 22-year-old Aditya Singh of Golconda, 32-year-old Suresh Harijan of Malkangiri, Odisha.

Officials said Lakan Singh and Shubham Singh were repeat offenders involved in similar incidents earlier. In East Mangalhat Police Station, more than half a dozen cases including murder and dacoity have been booked, while Shubham Singh is the nephew of Anguri Bai, who was recently arrested and sent to jail.
