Making Hyderabad a cyber-security hub for GSEC India

Hyderabad: Hyderabad will play a key role in shaping the future of online safety and security as the Google Safety Engineering Center (GSEC) begins its operations in Hyderabad early next year. It will also create thousands of direct and indirect jobs for the people of the city.

Announcing the mega project along with IT and Industries Minister Dudilla Sridhar Babu and Google representatives, Chief Minister A Revant Reddy said the Hyderabad center would be the only such center in India. It will be only the second in Asia and fifth in the world after Tokyo, Japan.

The other three are in Dublin, Ireland, Munich, Germany and Malaga, Spain.

GSECs are specialized international cyber-security hubs that play an important role in developing advanced security and online security solutions. GSECs are focused on cutting-edge research and creation of AI-powered security solutions.

Each GSEC tailors its work to address regional challenges. Given India’s dominance in mobile internet usage, GSEC in Hyderabad can focus on creating robust security measures for Android and other apps. It could also work to enhance algorithms and tools to identify and prevent the spread of misinformation on social media and messaging platforms, given India’s linguistic diversity and reliance on messaging apps.

GSEC brings together Google experts from a variety of disciplines, including VirusTotal, Mandiant, and Chronicle Security Operations, to build and develop innovative tools and technologies.

These centers work to understand and analyze the evolving cyber threat landscape. They also serve as a platform for collaboration between Google experts, policy makers, academics and businesses. This collaborative approach has the potential to increase collective understanding of cyber-security challenges and advance skills and expertise in the fields. These centers contribute to fostering skill development in the cyber-security domain, helping to address the global shortage of cyber-security professionals.

Revanth Reddy said that with the successful partnership with Google, the Telangana government has created history and laid the foundation to transform Hyderabad into a global hub for safety engineering and cyber security. He also said that the center will create thousands of jobs and the youth will get many opportunities in the future.

GSECs are important in many other ways because they will conduct research and development to combat online threats such as phishing, malware, and cyberbullying. These centers focus on building tools that give users more control over their data.

GSECs are strategically located around the world to address global cyber-security challenges and enhance digital security for businesses, governments and individual users.
