New Delhi: Opposition members of TMC and CPI(M) on Tuesday alleged that constitutional rights have been suspended in Manipur and criticized BJP MPs for not raising the issue during the debate on the constitution. Participating in a discussion on “75 Years of Glorious Journey of Constitution of India”, Sushmita Dev of Trinamool Congress said that all the rights guaranteed to the people under the Constitution in Manipur have been curtailed, so the MPs of the ruling party in the Northeast region should resign. .
“Today, I say when we are debating the constitution, what constitutional rights have you not suspended in Manipur? Freedom, expression of speech, everything has been suspended in Manipur.
“I stand here as a Member of Parliament representing the Northeast, demanding the resignation of every MP from the Northeast and every minister who bangs the desk behind the Leader of the House,” Dev said.
He alleged that the BJP was creating different classes of citizens with different rights in Assam.
“There is no equality in the way of NRC (National Register of Citizens),” Dev said and asserted that the government wants “one election, one leader, one religion”.
