CPCL is yet to pay the land owners

Farmers of Pangudi, Narimanan and Gopurjapuram villages in Nagapattinam district have expressed their frustration over the delay in payment of compensation for the land acquired for the Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) project.

Locals complain that almost 2000 farmers and beneficiaries have not been paid due to government orders even though the district administration has given them permission.

More than 2,000 petitions have been submitted to the Commissioner of Land Administration and the Additional Chief Secretary of the Industries Department demanding immediate intervention in this matter. The farmers are demanding rehabilitation and rehabilitation (R&R) relief for 642 acres of land acquired in 2020 for the CPCL project.

Two months ago, the district level verification and approval was over. However, we have not received any direction from the state government to facilitate R&R relief from CPCL,” said A. Shaktivel, secretary of the Land Owners’ Association. “We have protested in various forms, but our grievances have not been redressed. They have denied us our due compensation. They are leaving no choice but to continue the movement.
