Hyderabad: A wreath-laying ceremony was held to commemorate the sacrifices of the heroes of the 1971 Indo-Pak war at the Virula Sainik Memorial near the General KV Krishna Rao Parade Ground in Secunderabad. Many war veterans, senior officers of armed forces, soldiers and students of Army Public School participated in the program. On this occasion, guests and participants offered flowers and garlands. Air Vice Marshal PS Vadodkar, Commandant, College of Air Warfare, presided over the programme.
The ceremony was part of Vijay Diwas or Victory Day, celebrated nationwide on December 16, to commemorate India’s victory in the 1971 war, which led to Bangladesh’s independence. The war ended when the commander of Pakistan’s Eastern Army signed the ‘Instrument of Surrender’.
An interactive tea session involving tri-service personnel, veterans and students was also organized as a curtain raiser for the upcoming Army Day Parade 2025.
