Two arrested for beating the wife of an excise officer

A woman was assaulted by two men in North Paravur as an alleged retaliatory act against a case registered under the Excise Act by her husband, an Excise Prevention Officer.

34-year-old Rakesh and his friend 28-year-old Feroze have been arrested by North Paravur police. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the petitioner sustained injuries due to stone pelting by the accused on him and his house. It is also said that the car parked in the portico of the petitioner was vandalized.

The alleged incident took place on Sunday (December 15). Preventive officer Hanesh VS and his wife filed separate complaints.

Excise officials said that at around 3 pm on Sunday, Rakesh went to his house with his friends and created a ruckus and returned several times during the night as well. The officer claimed that he was injured when he was hit by a bottle thrown by the accused.

He said that the accused beat him and his family because the accused was selling illegal liquor. The case was prosecuted under sections 329(3) (criminal offence), 324(4) (accidentally causing loss or damage exceeding twenty thousand rupees and less than one lakh rupees), 118 of the Indian Code of Justice. (1) (intentionally harms another by using dangerous instruments or methods), and 351(2) (criminal threats).
