Manipur Chief Minister Condemns Bihar Migrant Labor Killing, Announces Rs.10 Lakh Gratuity

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has strongly condemned the killing of two migrant laborers from Bihar in Kakching district and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the kin of the two deceased.

He said that all possible efforts are being made to identify, arrest and prosecute those involved in the murder of two migrant workers.

In a post on X, Mr. Singh said, “I strongly condemn the brutal killing of young brothers, Sunalal Kumar (18) and Dashrat Kumar (17) from Bihar in Manipur’s Kuching district. This act of terrorism is a direct attack. Our values, and my deep Condolences go out to their bereaved families.”

“At this critical juncture, we cannot ignore the possibility that this heinous crime is part of a larger conspiracy to destabilize our state and push it towards chaos. We must unite against these destructive forces and ensure that they do not succeed in instilling fear and insecurity,” He added.

The Chief Minister of Manipur announced an ex-gratia of Rs 1 million to the bereaved family and said that the case would be transferred to the NIA if necessary.

“An ex-gratia of ₹ 10 lakh will be provided to each bereaved family, and all efforts are being made to identify, arrest and prosecute those responsible. If necessary, the case will be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). A fair and thorough probe,” Mr. Singh said.

Two migrant workers from Bihar were shot dead at point black range in Manipur’s Kakching district on Saturday evening. The incident took place at around 5:20 in the evening near the Panchayat office at Kerak on the Kakching-Wabgai road.

The police said that the identity of the person involved in the incident is yet to be ascertained. The deceased belonged to Bihar’s Gopalganj district and were construction workers living in a rented house in Kakching.
