Karimnagar: BJP leaders staged a protest in front of Sri Raja Rajeshwar Swamy Temple on Monday, demanding action against the temple authorities for allegedly selling sacred cows (Rajanna Kodelu) to slaughterhouses. They said that it violated the code of conduct and hurt the sentiments of the devotees.
The BJP along with Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal members filed a case against Madasu Rambabu at Geesukonda police station, alleging that he took 66 sacred cows from the temple on the recommendation of deity minister Konda Surekha and later sold 25 to slaughterhouses. . It is said that Rambabu used to run a cowshed in the name of the temple.
BJP City President R. Santosh Babu highlighted that the temple traditionally houses sacred cows which are donated by devotees as a ritual of “Kode Mokku”. It is alleged that instead of distributing the cows to the farmers according to the standards, the officials handed over the cows to Rambabu in two stages.
After only 41 cows were found in the Goshala, the police investigation revealed an anomaly. Rambabu claimed that some of them fell ill and died or ran away.
The BJP has demanded the sacking of minister Konda Surekha, suspension of negligent temple officials and criminal proceedings against those responsible. The memorandum was submitted in the grievance program held at the district administration office.
G. Prominent BJP leaders including Manoj and R Raj Kumar were present at the demonstration.
