Australian openers Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney, who had a safe stop-and-start deal on day one, fell to Jasprit Bumrah on day two of the third Test at the Gabba.
Day 1 recap
After India won the toss and sent Australia into bat, rain stopped the game for about 30 minutes in the sixth over. About half an hour later and until the scheduled lunch break, it rained. Khawaja was on 19 and McSweeney was on 4 runs and in 13.2 overs, Australia took a 28-0 lead.
Bumrah sends Khawaja back
Again, it is Bumrah who has troubled Australia so far in the series.
Bumrah dismissed Usman Khawaja in the fourth over of the day. The Australian southpaw was hit at the crease to defend, and Bumrah found the weakest on the outside edge.
It took a while for umpire Richard Illingworth to raise his finger but eventually he did and Khawaja’s poor run continued.
Bumrah gets another
Nathan McSweeney fought through his 49 at the crease, but he always looked vulnerable.
Bumrah bowled just a length behind and McSweeney was neither too far back nor too far ahead and bowled straight to Virat Kohli at second slip.
Smith and Marnus hold the fort
Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne have avoided Bumrah’s bursts and dealt other Indian fast bowlers with ease.
Bumrah continued to trouble Marnus Labuschran again and again, with the Australian No. 3 clapping and nodding, each time he was beaten.
These two shared 38 runs for the third wicket.
NKR comes into action
Nitish Kumar Reddy took the best wicket of Marnus Labuschagne. Marnus tries an extraordinary drive, gives a thick edge to Virat Kohli at second slip, who takes a good catch over his head.
