The Congress hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, accusing him of defaming Jawaharlal Nehru and his model of minimal democratic governance.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said Prime Minister Modi has an “obsession” with Nehru as he calls on him to distract the nation from his failures and current challenges on which he is completely silent.
The Congress attacked the Prime Minister a day after he attacked the party during a debate on the ‘glorious 75-year journey of the Constitution of India’.
“It was the famous French philosopher Voltaire who first said that if God does not exist, he needs to be invented. As for our self-anointed divinity – if Nehru did not exist, he needed to be invented,” Ramesh said.
What would the Prime Minister do without Nehru, for whom he has a pathological obsession, asked the Congress leader? “Nehru needs to distract the nation from his failures. Nehru is needed to distract the nation from the current challenges on which he is completely silent,” the Congress leader said.
He also said that Nehru needed to negate many of the nation’s achievements before May 2014.
Prime Minister Modi on Saturday accused the Congress of repeatedly perverting the Constitution by “tasting blood” in its “lust” for power, as he claimed his government’s policies and decisions since 2014 were meant to promote India’s strength and unity. Philosophy of the Constitution
