Bahraich: 2 teenagers arrested for stabbing a teacher Lucknow News

Two minor students have been arrested for allegedly attacking a 54-year-old teacher with a knife while attending a classroom in Bahraich, police said on Saturday. Teacher Rajendra Prasad Verma sustained injuries on his neck and head and is undergoing treatment. Doctors have said that his condition is now stable.

The police said that one of the students was angry because the teacher scolded him for bringing a mobile phone to the school and another teenage girl helped in the attack. Verma teaches in a private secondary college.

“Based on the CCTV footage of the college, we have identified and arrested two boys. They were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, which sent them to reform homes,” said the station house officer of the concerned police station.

According to the police, on Tuesday, Verma found a mobile phone in the hand of a student. The teacher scolded the student and took away the phone.

Later that day, the student returned the phone, warning that if the teacher contacted him again, it would be permanently confiscated and the family would be notified.

On November 12, when Verma was attending class, a student whose phone had been confiscated contacted him. Another student who was detained by the police also approached them and handed the knife to the former from his bag.

“The boy then stabbed the teacher, injuring his neck and head even as the teacher tried to defend himself. When other students raised the alarm, the two boys ran away with the knife,” said a police official.

Verma was taken to the hospital and the police were informed about the incident.

“We have recorded the statements of the school staff and the students present in the class,” the officer added.
