The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Saturday announced a 15 percent water cut in pockets of Mumbai city over the weekend to facilitate repair work amid reports of a technical breakdown in the existing transformer at the Paysay pumping station. Water supply will also be disrupted in parts of Thane and Bhiwandi till Sunday, December 15 due to maintenance work.
BMC has appealed to the residents to use water properly during the water cut.
According to the municipality, one of the existing transformers in the Pise electricity substation suddenly broke down on Saturday morning. The malfunction damaged six of the 20 pumps operating at the pumping station, forcing the BMC to initiate repairs on a war footing.
According to BMC, the reconstruction work will be done between Saturday and Sunday.
Pise Dam is a low water reservoir that stores and channelizes water from Bhatsa Lake, one of the seven lakes that supply water to Mumbai. The Pise Reservoir also supplies water to many industrial and residential pockets across Thane.
