The life of a farmer on the brink of suicide is more important than mine, says Dallewal as he enters the 19th day of his hunger strike Chandigarh news

With his death fast entering the 19th day, the agitating farmer leader and coordinator of the United Farmers’ Morcha (Non-Political) Jagjitsinh Dallewal has filed a petition in the Supreme Court to request the Center to take initiatives for the welfare of the farmers. He tried to emphasize that saving the lives of millions of farmers was more important than his own.

Dallewal, who was brought to the stage to address the assembly lying on his bed, said, ‘The Supreme Court has expressed concern about my health and I am thankful that they have taken care of my life. However, I would like to add that it is important to save all the farmers who are dying of suicide in the country rather than Dallewal. So far more than 7 lakh farmers have committed suicide. The Supreme Court is requested to put pressure on the central government to take measures to prevent suicide in the country.

“At the same time, I would like to remind the central government of its promise to make MSP (minimum support price of crops) a legal guarantee, implement the Swaminathan report and waive farmers’ loans,” he added.

‘The Supreme Court has told Dallewal Medical aid should be given… But that does not give the state or the central government the right to forcibly take me to a hospital. They will do this again and after that if anything happens in the front, the Modi government will be responsible,’ warned Dallewal.

On Friday, a two-judge bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Suryakant asked the Center and Punjab governments to ensure this. Proper medical aid for Dallewal “Without forcing him to break his fast,” he added, “his life is more precious than the movement…”.
