Punjab is witnessing a fresh wave of attacks on police establishments, with at least five incidents reported in the last 20 days. Fortunately, these attacks caused no casualties or major damage due to faulty grenades.
In a recent incident, a grenade was hurled near the entrance of Ghania Ke Bangar police station in Batala. The grenade did not explode. In the initial report, it is assumed that the attack may have been carried out by two unknown persons on a motorcycle. Senior police officers including SSP Sohail Qasim Mir visited the spot but no official statement was given.
The incident came to light after a social media post claimed responsibility for the attack. The post, purportedly from Happy Pasia and Gopi Navansaharia, warned of future attacks on police stations after 6 pm. Police have not denied the claims and are investigating.
Arrested in the previous Ajnala attack
On Friday, the Punjab Police announced the arrest of two suspects in connection with the IED planted outside the Ajnala police station on November 23. The suspects, Jandiala Guru’s Jashandeep Singh alias Danny and a 17-year-old juvenile, reportedly confessed. to commit a crime
According to DGP Gaurav Yadav, the attack was carried out by Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) operatives working under Pakistan’s ISI.
