Pakistan’s Mohammad Amir announced his international retirement Cricket News

Pakistan’s fast bowler Mohammad Amir has announced his international retirement on Saturday. Amir’s decision came a day after all-rounder Imad Wasim announced his retirement from international cricket, months after both players played for Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Since making his international debut in June 2009, the 32-year-old Amir has played 36 Tests, 61 ODIs and 62 T20Is for Pakistan. Amir, who was banned for five years in 2011 for being involved in spot fixing, returned to the national team in 2016.

The left-arm pacer later shone for Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, where he was the wrecker-in-chief in the final against India. Amir left India’s top order

“It is a great honor for Pakistan to play in all three formats. I know it is a tough decision, but I think it is the right time for the next generation to take up the baton and take Pakistan cricket to new heights,” Amir said in an official statement issued by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

The 32-year-old overturned his retirement in March 2024 and played for Pakistan in the T20 World Cup in the US in June, taking six wickets in four matches.

“I would like to thank the PCB for providing the necessary support over the years and I look forward to seeing the team excel. I would also like to thank the Pakistani fans for always supporting me throughout my career,” he added.
