OpenAI presents the ChatGPT project, a handy tool that makes organizing things easier Technology News

OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has been demonstrating and announcing new features for the past week. As part of its ongoing ‘ShipMass’ celebration, the Sam Altman-led company announced that it’s rolling out “Projects” for ChatGPT, a handy tool that makes it easier for users to organize the things they’re working on.

In a demo video, OpenAI staff said projects appear in the left sidebar and users can customize things like the title and color of the project icon. Users can add files and instructions to ChatGPT to modify how the AI chatbot responds to things in a project and even import previous chats into existing projects.

To create a new project, open ChatGPT and click the + button that appears next to Project in the top right part of the page. Now, give your project a name and proceed to tap on the “Create Project” button. OpenAI has stated that projects will use GPT-40 and that users will not be able to change the default model.

OpenAI staff also shared examples of using ChatGPT’s new project feature to plan a Secret Santa gift exchange and keep track of home maintenance. ChatGPT Projects is currently available for Plus, Pro and Teams users and is coming to Enterprise and Education users “early in the new year”. The company said the feature will be available to free users “as soon as possible”.

The new feature is unveiled as part of OpenAI’s 12-day-long ongoing Shipmass. To give you a quick recap, previous releases include the much-anticipated text-to-video AI model Sora, the new Canvas feature and a ChatGPT Pro subscription that costs $200 per month.
