Google’s AI-powered notebook web app – NotebookLM is getting a new feature that lets users talk to AI podcast hosts and ask questions in real-time. In a recent blog post, Google is rolling out the ability to “join” AI-generated virtual podcasts generated by NotebookLM’s Audio Overview feature.
For those wondering, the audio preview feature lets you “turn your documents into engaging audio discussions” at the tap of a button and start a virtual podcast with AI hosts talking and discussing things with each other.
To use the new feature, open NotebookLM, create a new audio preview, tap the New Interactive Mode (BETA) button and press Play. When the AI hosts start talking, just press the ‘Join’ button and one of the hosts will let you ask questions and respond to your sources.
Google says the new feature is still in the experimental phase and will only work with new audio previews. Also, it should be noted that AI hosts “can awkwardly pause before responding and sometimes introduce inaccuracies”.
Used by millions worldwide, Google is also giving NotebookLM Gemini 2.0 the Ftreatment and rolling out a new interface, which the company says will make it easier for users to switch between different activities in one unified interface.
The new interface organizes NotebookLM into three panels called Resources, Chats, and Studio. While the first two panels are self-explanatory, Google says the Studio panel lets users create new things with one click from their resources like study guides, briefing documents and audio observations.
The tech giant also introduced a new subscription plan called NotebookLM Plus, which offers features like five times more audio views, notebooks and resources per notebook, the ability to customize the style and length of notebooks and even create shared notebooks.
