‘Delhi tops cities in murders and crimes against women’: Arvind Kejriwal seeks discussion with Union Minister Amit Shah | Delhi News

Alleging a “complete breakdown” of law and order in the city, AAP convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking time to discuss the matter.

Delhi, Kejriwal alleged, has become the “crime and rape capital of the world” as statistics put it among the cities with the highest number of murders and the worst among 19 metros when it comes to women’s safety. He also flagged bomb threats at schools as a regular feature and a 350 percent increase in drug incidents.

“I am writing to you as the responsibility of law and order in Delhi is in your hands as the home minister of the country. But I am sad to say that Delhi is now known as the crime capital at home and abroad,” the AAP chief said in the letter.

‘Crimes against women in Delhi are on the rise, extortion gangs and gangsters are active in every bylane… Criminals have become so fearless that shootings, murders, kidnappings are taking place in broad daylight. added

In the last six months, Kejriwal alleged that more than 300 schools and colleges in the city, as well as 100 hospitals, malls and airports have received bomb threats. When schools were evacuated in response to bomb threats, what were children and their parents expected to feel, he asked.

“Why are these people who make false threats everyday not arrested? Can you imagine how the children and their parents feel after being sent home because of a bomb threat? Today, every parent and child in Delhi lives in terror of bomb threats,” he alleged.

“…Delhi tops the 19 metro cities when it comes to crimes and murders against women. Drug-related crimes have increased by 350 percent since 2019,” he said.

Accusing Kejriwal of insecurity among women and the business community, Kejriwal said the people of Delhi had started asking why they did not deserve the opposite when it came to the law and order situation in the city.

Demanding his intervention in the matter as the Delhi Police is under him, Kejriwal said, “The situation is very bad Mr. Home Minister. We need to rise above politics and fix law and order in Delhi immediately. I request you to spare your precious time as soon as possible so that I Let me brief you on the situation.”
