The spectators who came to the Gabba Stadium on Saturday to watch the exciting match between India and Australia were left disappointed as only 13.2 overs could be bowled before the first day’s match was called off.
However, there was a silver lining to the gloomy cloudy morning as Cricket Australia issued a full refund to all 30,145 fans who turned up to watch the match on the first day.
This is due to the CA policy which entitles spectators to a full refund of tickets if they bowl less than 15 overs in a one-day match. This meant that the board was only 10 balls away from potentially avoiding a return and saving Australia more than 1 million.
The sport’s governing body in the country has insurance to cover losses due to bad weather.
Australia ended the rain-affected 28 runs without defeat in the match where India invited them to bat. In the sixth consecutive over, incessant rain halted play for a while, while a second spell of heavy rain halted the rest of the first day’s play.
The match was called off at 4:15pm local time after the rain refused to stop. As per CA’s ticketing policy, single-match ticket holders are entitled to a 100 percent refund on a full-day ticket for a Test match if 15 overs are not completed and there is no result.
The five-match series is tied 1-1, with India winning the first match in Perth by 295 runs, while Australia won by 10 wickets in Adelaide.
