BJP MP Tejashwi Surya lashed out at the Congress in the Lok Sabha on Saturday, saying the “attackers” of the Constitution were posing as “champions” of the Constitution in a decades-long “hypocritical drama” in the country.
Participating in a two-day debate in the Lower House on the “75-year glorious journey of India’s Constitution”, the Bangalore South MP alleged that parties like the Congress treat India as “only one” and not as a civilizational state or nation. A hotchpotch union of states.”
“For a long time, those who attacked the constitution have been playing a big hypocritical drama by making themselves champions of the constitution. This hypocrisy must be exposed. This hypocrisy has been going on for a long time.
“BJP is the defender of the Constitution and the defender of territorial integrity. Other political parties like the Congress consider India not as a civilizational state but as a nation, but a mere confederation of states. This is an attack on the constitution. Due to this difference in philosophy leading to the nation and the constitution, the Congress and its successors, the prime minister, have not only attacked the constitution but also the soul of this country,’ he said.
Surya alleged that the words ‘socialist’ and ‘secular’ in the constitution were an attempt to make it rigid.
“The forced insertion of (the words) Socialist and Secular in the Constitution of India, during the 42nd Amendment, was not the first attempt to introduce these two ideas into the Constitution and to make the Constitution rigid. Even during the debates in the Constituent Assembly, it was proposed to add the words Socialist and Secular to the Preamble of the Constitution and it was proposed by Babasaheb (Ambedkar) was categorically rejected and the reason for this is very telling,” he added.
The MP noted that many opposition members had said on Friday that the Congress had done this with laudable intentions.
“Their only aim was to build a dynasty in politics and a monopoly in the economy, so there will be no challenge to the first family of the Congress party. By introducing socialism, it was believed that only one type of government and one type of party would maintain dynasticism, and politics would be controlled by the monopoly of the clan, and the economy would also be controlled by the monopoly of the clan. will be controlled by a state monopoly.
This vicious cycle has made the country poor, hungry and backward. The pressure of socialism has cost the country dearly,’ he said.
Surya also criticized the DMK, saying its leaders would eradicate Sanatan Dharma.
Attacking the Congress, he said, “The imposition of crisis, violation of fundamental rights, forced sterilization of the people was an attack on the Constitution and today we are listening to their speech on the Constitution,” Surya said.
