Delhi Police officers shot dead an aide of dreaded gangster Hasim Baba in an encounter in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut on Saturday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Sonu Matka who hails from East Gokalpur in Delhi who shot dead a property dealer and his nephew on Diwali this year, and is also wanted in the 2022 Karol Bagh robbery.

Police said Hashim Baba gang member Sonu Matka was critically injured after six rounds of firing in TP Nagar area of ​​Meerut and died in hospital.

According to the police, the UP Special Task Force (STF) and a Special Cell (NDR) team headed by Assistant Commissioner Rahul Vikram tracked down Matka based on an input.

Matka carried a bounty of Rs 50,000 on his head and was first arrested in an Arms Act case in Jaffrabad, an official said.

“He came out on parole in 2021 and then went into hiding in Meerut, assuming different names to avoid tracking. He kept coming back to Loni and Delhi to carry out criminal activities,” the officer said.
