A 19-year-old youth who is in the Dongri Children’s Correctional Home on charges of murder created a ruckus on Saturday and attacked three employees of the hospital and damaged property. Dongri police have registered an FIR against the youth and may arrest him soon.
According to the police complaint, Sanjay Bhoir, an employee of the correctional home, went to feed the youth in the hospital on Saturday evening.
The accused juvenile hit Bhoir from behind. Bhoir complained to his senior (housekeeper) Dhondku Rathod, who called the youth to his office to talk. When confronted with Bhoir’s allegations, the youth showed no remorse, became aggressive and tried to strangle Rathod to death. After Rathod screamed for help, Dattatray Ghuge, a security guard present nearby, came to his aid and took the accused youth back.
The young man became more enraged and picked up a pen from the table and attacked Ghuge with the intention of stabbing him in the neck. But when Ghuge put his hand in the middle to ward off the attack, his hand was injured. Then the accused youth started vandalizing articles inside and outside the office. Sources at Dongri Children’s Home said that he damaged many items including LED television set.
Due to commotion, other employees gathered and took the accused juvenile to a separate room after handcuffing them.
Medicine was given to the injured employee and Dongri police was informed.
Based on Ghuge’s complaint, a new complaint was lodged against the girl.
Sources said that his family recently came to visit him. The family also told him about the death of a distant relative. “Since then, he has been desperate to get out,” said a correctional source.
The accused juvenile from the eastern suburbs was 17 when he was incarcerated at the facility on charges of murder. His case has been transferred from the Juvenile Justice Board (JUB) to the Special Juvenile Court.
“He is a habitual troublemaker in the juvenile correctional facility. Earlier, he had assaulted and misbehaved with the staff. He also threatens other minors housed in the facility. Despite several counseling sessions and doctor’s sessions, there has been no improvement in his behavior,” said Dongri Juvenile Correctional Home. An official said.
He has made death threats to staff at the facility, and they fear for their personal safety as well as that of other children, the official added.
The police have registered a case under Sections 132, 352, 351(3), 115(2) of the Indian Judicial Code and Section 3 of the Prevention of Loss of Public Property Act.
