An 18-year-old tribal woman who went missing on the evening of December 4 in Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal was found dead in a pond on Saturday morning.
The police said that his body was found with his hands and feet tied, his mouth tied and a brick tied around his waist.
According to the woman’s family, on the evening of November 4, she went to the family shed with her mother to graze the cattle. She has been missing since then,’ said the woman’s mother.
Residents of the area said that he was last seen riding a motorcycle with a man in his 30s, police said. Although the police said that the murder is being investigated, the woman’s family has alleged that the murder took place after rape.
The murder is being investigated based on the family’s complaint. The post-mortem report will determine the actual cause of her death,” Superintendent of Police (Basirhat) Hussain Mehdi Rehman said, adding that they were waiting for the post-mortem report.
Another police officer said the family had not named any suspects. “We are investigating. Who is involved in this will be known soon. Action will be taken according to the law,’ said the official.
Meanwhile, the woman’s grandmother has written a letter to the National Commission for Women to investigate the death. “She claimed that it was clear from the body that her granddaughter had been raped and murdered. However, the police did not say anything about it,’ said the woman’s family member.
