48 teams comprising a total of 339 participants (230 boys and 109 girls) from 15 states across the country will work on 10 problem statements at the Smart India Hackathon 2024 Grand Finale (Software Edition) at Shivananda Ashram, Ahmedabad.
The two-day event will be held on December 11 and 12 with the support of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the Ministry of Education. Jointly organized by Gujarat Technological University (GTU) and Space Application Center (SAC). 19 teams from GTU-affiliated colleges and five teams will represent GTU will participate in the event at the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) flagship center in Ahmedabad.
Sharing details of the 10 problem statement domains at the seventh edition of the Hackathon, Nilesh M Desai, Director, Space Applications Center (SAC), Ahmedabad, said, “These include lunar exploration, remote sensing, air quality monitoring, satellite communications and navigation, geospatial mapping. , Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence and Web Mapping.This edition of Hackathon is expected to be a paradigm shift as the students with the help of ISRO can develop their own setups.”
Adding, he said, “The hackathon was launched with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to make India a startup nation like Israel. SIH 2024 has so far achieved significant milestones with the participation of 8,98,884 students, over 6,000 innovators and 3,896 organizations. SIH has over 100 Hackathons have inspired the creation of more startups, making them key drivers of entrepreneurship and innovation in India It serves as an important platform to address the current challenges faced by industries to harness their creativity and technological skills. It also paves the way to advance India’s vision of a developed nation by 2047.”
Launched by the Center in 2017, the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) has become India’s largest platform for open innovation. Initially focused on software solutions, the hackathon expanded to include a hardware version in 2018. The aim of the program is to provide a platform for young minds to showcase their technical skills and find solutions to creative and practical challenges in different areas of the country.
