A 16-year-old girl died early Monday morning in Andhra Pradesh’s Nandayal district after she was set on fire by another minor, who police said had been “teasing her for weeks to confess her love”.
Police said that both the minors are from neighboring villages and are students of the same educational institution.
“He had been pushing and teasing her for weeks to confess his love, but she refused him. The girl complained to her parents, who sent her to live with her grandmother six months ago. After midnight on Sunday, he accused her at her grandmother’s house…he also He suffered burns but is fine,” said an official.
Polly said that hearing the screams of the girl, the family members and neighbors got up and caught the boy who was trying to run away. The seriously injured girl died on the way to the hospital.
Andhra Pradesh Home Minister V Anitha condemned the incident and promised speedy justice to the family.
