Rekha happily obliged but also chose to share an interesting anecdote revealing her close relationship with the iconic singer.
Rekha recalls, ‘Once she invited me to her birthday party. On her birthday on stage I said ‘Lata didi I am your biggest fan, if you are listening to me then give me a daughter like Lata didi in my next birth’. He answered me, ‘Why in the next birth? I am your daughter even in this birth.’ He immediately came to me and called, ‘Mom! Mother!’ His voice has been ringing in my ears since that day.”
The bond between Rekha and Lata Mangeshkar goes beyond mere anecdotes and Lata’s voice has immortalized many of the characters played by Rekha on the big screen. Some of these iconic songs include “Tere Bina Jiya Jaye Na”, “Neela Asmaan So Gaya”, “Aajkal Paav Zameen Par Nahi Padate”, “Salme Ishq Meri Jaan” and “Dekha Ek Khwaab”.

Dandiya Aati or Na Aati ho, the face of such a man-shaks comes, then every eye seems to be covered by itself.. (Think about it, the personality of the person I played Dandiya. I definitely had to do a better job. I didn’t know how to play Dandiya, when he stood in front of me, I just started dancing). .”
