President-elect Trump has said on his first day in office that he plans to end American ‘birthright citizenship’ World News

The newly elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, said on Sunday that he plans to end the country’s ‘birthright citizenship’, which is included in the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution.

The decision would strip the rights of those born in the US to parents without valid documents.

In an interview with NBC, Trump said his goal during his four years in office is to deport all immigrants who entered the U.S. illegally. This was a major promise made by the Republican presidential campaign.

However, he said he was open to working with Democrats to strike a deal that would protect ‘Dreamers’ – illegal immigrants who entered the US illegally – and allow them to stay in the country.

Trump also said he has no plans to restrict the availability of abortion pills. Earlier in his presidential campaign, the Republican said the US Supreme Court had shown “great courage” in overturning Roe v. Wade in 2022.

Three conservative Supreme Court justices appointed during Trump’s first term voted to overturn abortion rights nationwide.

Speaking at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Trump said he would “absolutely” consider doing so if member countries did not “pay their bills”.
